Spring Freeze Information

Posted: Updated:

With recent warm temperatures and greening grounds, the temptation to start planting all your Spring flowers now is ever-present.  Before you do, though, you need to weigh the risk of your precious posies encountering one last freeze.

In Oklahoma City, we typically see our last Spring freeze around March 30, but have had a freeze as late in the season as May 5.  Last year, we had freezing temperatures in the Metro on April 7, a month after the previous freeze in early March.

You can check your part of the state's Spring freeze statistics here.  Click on the "First/Last Freeze Days" section.

Gardening experts are pros at managing fickle Spring temperatures, but for the rest of us amateurs, erring on the side of caution may be our best bet in outsmarting the last Spring freeze.
