A big heart isn't enough to play

The state basketball playoffs are underway and teams across the state are marching to the Big House hoping to play for the cherished gold ball.

But as one high school player found out, love of the game and a big heart sometimes aren't enough to make hoop dreams come true.

Adam Davidson was told by his coach he wasn't able to play basketball anymore.

"When he told me that I couldn't play, that's pretty much like him actually stabbing me in the heart," Davidson said.

His heart, in a lot of ways, is why Davidson watches games now instead of playing.

Davidson passed out after basketball games. He spent more time in hospitals than on the hardwood. That's when doctors diagnosed him with Marfan Syndrome, a genetic disorder weakening his body's tissue.

Davidson takes a combination of pills and injections to help manage his Marfan. Despite being sick, he's sticking with basketball.

He said he'll study physical education in college, and hopefully coach after graduation.
