Firefighters extinguished numerous grass fires this weekend, but said the danger is not over.

Heavy winds and dry conditions Monday make what firefighters call the perfect wildfire conditions.

An extremely wet summer and last month's ice storm have produced a lot of weeds, grass and tree debris providing fuel for fires, said fire officials. There have been so many grass fires this winter that this season could be the worst grass fire season on record.

"We are faced with a huge, potential fire problem, possibly even greater than what we had a year or two years ago," Oklahoma City Battalion Chief Bobby Lax said.

There is no statewide burn ban yet, but that could easily change as conditions warrant.

Lax asked people use caution when burning trash and disposing of lit cigarettes.
