After a few days of record highs, a strong cold front has plowed across the state bringing blustery and colder conditions across a large portion of the nation, including all of Oklahoma.

What will the weather be like in Oklahoma on Wednesday, February 28?

Temps Wednesday morning have dropped into the upper 20s and lower 30s with blustery northwest winds at 30 mph creating wind chill values in the teens and lower to mid-20s.

Highs 2/28/2024The top end wind speeds will quickly diminish speed by midday to afternoon as a surface ridge of high pressure settles near northern OK.

Below normal highs are expected this afternoon with northern sections reaching the mid-40s and southern OK nearing 50.

What will the weather be like in Oklahoma on Thursday, February 29?

Dry air and mostly light winds will support Thursday morning temps into the 20s and lower 30s with afternoon highs staying in the lower 50s with increasing clouds and gusty southeast winds from 15 to 20 mph.

A weak upper-level wave will bring a mention of some showers across the area Thursday afternoon and evening. But dry air at the surface may continue to inhibit higher chances for measurable precipitation with this system initially.

Rain Zone 2/28/2024

This dry air may also allow a few sleet pellets to fall by Thursday evening across far northeastern OK and northwestern Arkansas. Any precip amounts Thursday will remain light and insignificant.

As this wave exits the area, sunshine returns Friday with morning lows in the 30s and afternoon highs in the mid-60s.

What will the weather be like this weekend in Oklahoma?

Spring-like weather returns this weekend gusty south winds along with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 70s.

South winds from 15 to 25 mph are anticipated Saturday with stronger winds Sunday as the next stronger upper-level storm system develops across the western U.S and ejects into the central to northern plains early next week.

Weekend 2/28/2024

As this system nears the state Sunday, low level moisture will be attempting to move from Texas into the eastern third of Oklahoma Sunday evening into early Monday morning.

Another surface front will move across the area either late Sunday night or early Monday morning supporting the mention of a few storms near or east of the Tulsa metro.

Enough dynamic energy from this system could trigger strong to severe storms but the position and depth of the returning moisture may still mitigate the threat to areas of far southeastern OK into western Arkansas. At this point, our probability of storm activity remains near 20%.
