A 911 operator helped guide a woman to safety during a Yukon fire Sunday evening.

The operator is Oklahoma City Fire Major Dean Morris, a seasoned communicator when it comes to emergencies.

When he picked up the call from the woman trapped inside her burning home, Morris stayed calm.

“I can’t find my way to the door,” the woman pleaded with Morris during the call.

The caller repeatedly told Morris she had fallen, and couldn’t see which room she was in, let alone a way out.

“As you can tell on the 911 call, she’s stressed out and panicking,” Morris said.

Morris began trying to guide the woman through her home, simultaneously communicating with fire crews on the other line.

“As it starts, she tells me, she doesn’t know where she is at, which is obviously scary for her,” Morris said, describing the call.

As crews neared the home, the smoke grew, and the woman began coughing into the phone and complaining of trouble breathing.

“She was saying it's getting really hot and you could tell her anxiety kept kind of raising with that,” Morris said.

After a few moments, firefighters arrived and were guided by Morris to the woman.

The woman was taken to the hospital and is now safe.

Morris says in his 20 years of service, this call is unlike any he’s handled before.

“It's a couple of these calls that you actually have a great outcome that you can tell you made a difference, if you will,” Morris said.

The victim’s husband says their two dogs were also heroes, waking the woman up during the fire, as the smoke alarm wasn’t working.
Both dogs passed away in the fire.
