The University of Oklahoma has named an interim associate vice president for university community.
Jane Irungu will join the office of university community staff on Aug. 20.
Irungu will lead the office until a replacement has been made. Jabar Shumate resigned from his position in July.
Soon afterward, Shumate held a news conference concerning how he left the university and the university released an internal audit concerning Shumate's use of a state vehicle.
“I am honored and humbled for the opportunity to serve in this new role,” Irungu said in a news release. “I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, students and the entire OU community to enhance the foundations and principles of inclusive excellence that are part of our OU vision and mission.”
A search committee comprised of 10 faculty and staff members of the university submitted their recommendations to OU President James Gallogly for his selection.
