Man Steals Beer, Attacks QuikTrip Clerks, Tulsa Police Say
TULSA, Oklahoma - A robbery and assault at a Tulsa QuikTrip store ends late Wednesday with a man jumping on the roof a car before he is finally arrested.
Police say two men walked into the QuikTrip near 11th and Highway 169 around 11 p.m. Officers say one of the men, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Arellano-McNair, took a couple cases of beer, then walked out along with the other man.
They say Arellano-McNair then came back in the store, jumped over the counter and started attacking two store clerks.
Police Sgt. Andrew MacKenzie says the store's surveillance video showed a bizarre, violent attack, and said it’s amazing the clerks are going to be okay.
"Watching the assault occur on video, it's pretty amazing that they're okay because he was going insane inside that store, punching with his fists, kicking, he began tearing up property inside the store," MacKenzie said.
The chaos didn't end there. The second man came into the store and pointed a gun at the clerks during the assault, telling them and a customer who'd stepped in to help to let his friend go, police said.
Police say that is when Arellano-McNair left the store again and started jumping on one of the clerk's cars, breaking a sunroof.
When police pulled up, Arellano-McNair ran across Highway 169 where he was eventually arrested.
Police are working to identify the other man. They also took into custody a woman they say was driving a car for the two men.
Jail records show Thomas Arellano-McNair was booked on complaints including first-degree robbery, assault and battery, malicious injury to property and resisting arrest.
