Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph is one of three national finalists for the inaugural Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, it was announced today. The award recognizes exemplary leadership both on and off the field.
The other two finalists are Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick and UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin.
A three-year starter who owns more than 50 school records and who led the FBS in passing yards and points responsible for per game this season, Rudolph is also Oklahoma State's most active participant in community service activities. He is a regular participant in OSU's Coaches vs. Cancer program and makes frequent appearances at local elementary schools and churches. His volunteer work with numerous community organizations has included service with Coaches vs. Cancer, Read Across America, the YMCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Tim Tebow's Night To Shine Prom, Future Farmers of America, Grace Living Center (Nursing Home), Stillwater Medical Center, Nike N7, University Heights Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, the Manning Passing Academy and more.
In addition to his status as a finalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, he was recognized as the 2017 recipient of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and is a finalist for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' Bobby Bowden Award. The Unitas Award is given to a quarterback for his achievement both on the field and his character, citizenship, scholastic achievement and leadership qualities. The Bowden Award is presented to the FBS player who epitomizes a student-athlete as he represents God, his family, his institution and his community.
The winner of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year will also receive a $10,000 contribution in his name to his school's athletic scholarship fund. The contribution will be made by Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation, the official charity of Jason and his wife Michelle.
Rudolph and the other Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year finalists are invited to a February 22 award ceremony, which will take place at The Star in Frisco, Texas, where the winner will be announced.
