The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) is looking for help tracking down a poacher who shot and decapitated a buck near Edmond.
A spokesperson for the ODWC tells News 9 the incident happened sometime between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. Saturday, between N. Coltrane Rd. and N. Sooner Rd. and E. Covell Rd. and E. Danforth Rd.
Authorities say the buck was shot from the road and that the suspect or suspects removed no trespassing signs on the property and cut through a fence to retrieve the animal. Only the deer’s head was removed, the rest of the carcass was left behind.
A distinct physical characteristic allowed the animal to be identified from trial cameras in the area.
If you have any information about the crime, you are asked to call the game warden at (405)-850-9607 or the Operation Game Thief line 1-800-522-8039. Operation Game Thief callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward. Additionally, the people who reported the crime are also offering an additional $500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
