OSBI Investigating Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting In Chickasha
GRADY COUNTY, Oklahoma - The OSBI is investigating at a home in the southern part of Chickasha following a deadly officer-involved shooting Saturday.
According to the Chickasha Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 1:54 a.m. Officers responded to the home at 1908 W. Montana after receiving a disturbance call. Police said they were informed the involved suspect had a gun.
According to the OSBI, officers announced they were entering the home, and approached a room. The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Steve Dwayne Vananda, and another family member were inside and Vananda grabbed a gun. He exchanged gunfire with an officer.
Vananda was struck at least one time and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on routine administrative leave.
The OSBI says the name of the officer will not be released at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
