NextGen Live: Behind The Scenes
OKLAHOMA CITY - News 9's NextGen Live radar is fired up to keep you safe. It's the most powerful dual pol radar in the world.
One million watts of power fuel it, allowing us to track storms further out than we've been able to do before.
"It will help you to find even further where that dangerous weather event is in relation to your viewers," said Bob Dreisewerd, Baron Chief Development Officer.
Engineers at Baron Services spent the last year building our new radar - the most advanced weather radar in the state. What makes this radar so special is that up until now all television radars in Oklahoma were a single pol radar but now, we have brought in a dual pol radar, the first of its kind in Oklahoma. The radar sends out the two beams of energy, which allows us to see instantly whether it's raining or sleeting, the size of hail and the exact locations of the storms and tornadoes, all in real time.
"You're getting twice as good a resolution with this radar, breaks down to nearly street level with your radar, being able to track at street level," said Dreisewerd.
This advanced type of tracking will keep you safe from the storm.
