OCC Working With Cushing For Best Course Of Action

Posted: Updated:
CUSHING, Oklahoma -

The Corporation Commission is active this morning with crews looking for possible damage in what the federal government has deemed "critical infrastructure."

The oil industry is so vital for the small city that currently serves as a major trading hub for crude oil.

After last night's damaging quake near Cushing, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission had been in contact with pipeline operators who did not report any problems to their infrastructure.

Cushing City Manager Steve Spears said it was important for the city and the industry to reach common ground.

"I think it's a balance. Obviously, the oil industry is essential to Cushing and our area, our workers that work in the oil fields, and we have a great concern for property. A balance has to be worked out. We trust the Corporation Commission to do that."

Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports they have not found any damage to state highways or bridges within a 15-mile radius of the earthquake's epicenter.
