Basic Cream Gravy

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil or drippings (bacon or sausage is best)
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 cups milk
  1. Heat the oil in a skillet and whisk in the flour and salt. Cook till flour turns a light toasty color.
  2. Whisk in the milk and stir constantly so that you do not have lumps.
  3. Sprinkle in the pepper.
  4. Continue to cook until thickened.
  5. Add in the sausage or any other mix-ins you desire.
  6. Serve over biscuits.
