Grady County Launches 'Hyper-Reach' Emergency Alerts

Grady County wants all residents to sign up for their new emergency alert notification system. The program is called Hyper-Reach. Sign up is simple, quick and can potentially save lives.

“Mainly it’s just going to be for something very imminent and possibly life-threatening,” said Dale Thompson. Thompson is the Director of Emergency Management for Grady County.”

He said the new system will be used in situations like tornado warnings, hazardous material spills, hostage situations, domestic violence, terrorism attacks, missing persons cases, or even boil orders.

Hyper-Reach is able to pinpoint notifications to specific locations. Thompson said it’s down to street level.

He wants every household in Grady County to sign up. It is free to register and can be done online or over the phone. Hyper-Reach gives the option for method of contact through text, call or email.

On Wednesday, less than 200 people signed up for the new program. Thompson is trying to spread the word to all 52,000 residents.

Thompson said, “We figure if we use it one time and it saves one person’s life, it’s worth it.”

The county will pay $14,000 per year for Hyper-Reach. Thompson said the city of Anadarko and Chocktaw Nation also use the same program.
