The family of 32-year-old woman says she was inside her home watching television, when she saw two people lurking in her backyard and then heard gunshots.

“She just got back from taking the kids to school and she heard gunshots from the back so she got on the ground and layed (sic) down,” said her niece, who did not want to publicize her name.

“She knew she had gotten hit and she was scared, but she knew she had to get a phone to call 911 and get a hold of someone.”

Her niece did not want to share her name or show her face. And you can understand why. The people who did the drive-by shooting fired indiscriminately – even into a little girl's bedroom who was home less than an hour before this happened. And so were two other children.

“We're just thankful that the kids weren’t there,” said the niece.

But unfortunately she was. Her family says she is expected to survive, but she did have to undergo surgery.

“She's doing OK. She has a lot of pain,” said the niece. “She has no understanding of why this happened to her. They're thinking it’s the wrong house.”

Neighbors are stunned. The shooting happened on NW 88th street near Harvey Ave. - less than a block from a drive-by shooting that happened three days prior.

“She keeps to herself. She's really respectful,” said one neighbor who was too scared to share her name. “She always waves. I'm honestly worried about her because I like her.”

The neighbor agreed to show her face, but did not want to share her name since the people who did this are still out there somewhere.  She too doesn't understand why anyone would want to target the victim's home; a home she has lived in for the past two years.

“She doesn't cause any trouble - her kids stay to themselves. There are some rough kids on the block, but she keeps her kids in so they're not part of the drama,” said the neighbor.

News 9 checked and the victim does have two prior arrests for drugs-related crimes, but that was years ago.

Police are still looking for the people who did this saying they took off in a grey 4-door car with paper tags.
