The U.S. Attorney's Office in Oklahoma City is hosting an event for at-risk teenagers later this month.
The office will bring a special speaker to several Oklahoma City schools on Sept. 22.
The speaker is Michael Concepcion, of Sherman Oaks, California, was a founding member of the Crips street gang. He was incarcerated in the '80s and confined to a wheelchair after a bullet crippled him. He has since become a law abiding citizen and has worked in music, TV and film.
According to a media release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Concepcion is passionate about working with at-risk youth. He is a strong advocate of education and believes that there is too much emphasis on inner city youth achieving success in music or sports, rather than working hard to develop careers as a lawyer, doctor, dentist, etc. He has traveled throughout the country to speak to at-risk youth and promote peace amongst criminal street gangs.
