Only On 9: Logan Co. Grandmother Victim Of Cyberbullying

A grandmother in Logan County is afraid for her life after someone posted a photo and ad of her on Craigslist. As a warning, some of the content is graphic.

Shirley Lyons was in tears during her interview with News 9. She said her phone was on the table when it was ringing off the hook. She went to pick it up and discovered it was a response to a false sex ad on Craigslist.

The ad was labeled “w4mm” which stands for “women for multiple men”.

Lyons said, “No. I am not one of those kinds of people.” She said she did not make the post, but believes it’s someone who knows her that did it. “There was a map to my home here with directions.”

The content on the ad was inappropriate and racist. Shirley’s phone number was also written on the ad; the entire thing has since been taken down but she says her phone is still buzzing. There are dozens of text messages and voicemails on her phone.

She is afraid every time she sees it ring. She is afraid of every text message, call, and voicemail. She’s also afraid someone is going to show up at her front door.

The photo taken was originally of her with her granddaughter, but it was cropped and filtered for Craigslist. “They marred a memory that was such a good memory that day,” said Lyons.

She says this is an extreme level of cyberbullying that is horrifying to her.

“I want to run,” said Lyons.  

Shirley has reported the incident to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and she hopes the detectives can find whoever is responsible.
