Cleveland County Detention Center employees held a pie-throwing event to raise money for school supplies to be distributed among area schools.

According to the Sheriff’s office, 15 people, including Undersheriff Rhett Burnett, volunteered to take a pie in the face at the August 25 fundraiser. Detention staff collected $225 that day, bringing the total raised to $675 to purchase school materials for local children.

Sheriff Joe Lester said the supplies will be distributed among Robin Hill Public School, Lexington, Little Axe and Noble Public Schools.

Lester said the detention center collects school supplies for kids every year. This fundraiser helps families in Cleveland County who may not have the capability of buying materials for their children.

“As many parents know, buying a list of school supplies can be expensive, especially when there are multiple children in a household,” said Lester. “This supply drive will ensure that students will be able to learn with all the supplies they need for class.”
