With the first game just over a week away, the Little Axe football team is searching for help.

A fire early Tuesday morning gutted the Indians' field house, leaving debris and ash littered throughout what used to be the team's locker room.

"It's kind of disheartening because you have students excited about football starting," said superintendent Jay Thomas. "The whole school is excited about football starting."

Inside the locker room, all the football equipment is a total loss. The estimated cost of damages, including uniforms, is $50,000.

"It's a little nerve racking," said coach Matt Looney, "but just make the best of it. I've had a lot of coaches reach out and say they're willing to help out so you know you'll explore those avenues today."

Neighboring schools have offered to help however they can, including Moore, Lexington, and Jones.

Norman fire ruled the preliminary cause to be an electrical issue that caught the insulation on fire but still remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
