Anonymous Notes Of Encouragement Left At Oklahoma Co. Sheriff's Office

OKLAHOMA CITY -

The sheriff says it's been a tough day on the men and women at the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office as they mourn the loss of five officers in Dallas. But a small gesture offered them some encouragement.

“You know there’s just really not a lot of words that can describe the sadness, the horror, you know, is this really happening?” Sheriff John Whetsel said.

Whetsel told News 9 that anyone wearing a badge is grieving over what happened in Dallas Thursday night.

“Those five heroes last night didn’t expect that to be their last shift. Every day we have law enforcement officers across the country and here in this county that put on a uniform and go out to protect our citizens, never knowing whether that’s their last shift or not,” he said.

It's that bravery and sacrifice that someone wanted to recognize. A note was left on the windshields of Oklahoma County cruisers in the parking lot before Friday morning.

They said, "Praying for police officers everywhere. Your lives matter! Thank you for your service. God bless you all."

Another note on the front entrance echoed that same sentiment.

“Whoever did that expressed in just a very short, simple, few words expressed love, kindness, caring and support,” Sheriff Whetsel explained.

And he said that's just what law enforcement needs, here at home, in Dallas and all over the country.

“Law enforcement is a big family and when you reach out and touch one of us, you’ve touched us all,” he added.

Flags at the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office are lowered to half-staff and the sheriff said they will wear black badge bands through the day of the final funeral for the officers killed in Dallas.
