Northwest Expressway reopened to traffic at 8 p.m. Saturday, ahead of schedule.

An estimated 30,000 cars travel that stretch near May Avenue everyday. But the May Avenue bridge is still closed to traffic.

City engineers said the demolition of the damaged section finished this weekend. But rebuilding and restoring it could take two to three months.

There are four lanes of traffic on each end of the May Avenue bridge, but only two lanes are undamaged.  Crews have to figure out a way to merge traffic down to one lane each direction

If you need to get around the bridge, the city recommends using N.W. 63rd or N.W. 50th. It is possible during the repairs some lanes of the bridge will reopen but that is still being evaluated by city engineers.
