Georgia Man On The Run From Authorities Captured In OKC

The search for a missing Georgia man came to an end by chance in Oklahoma City. Authorities think Cody Magee disappeared to avoid facing charges for child sex crimes.

An officer spotted the Georgia man's car Tuesday night along a stretch of Interstate 40 near downtown more than 1,000 miles away from where crews searched for him.

For the past two days, search and rescue teams combed through thousands of miles of creeks and marsh land around Tybee Island looking for Cody Magee.

Magee's disappearance triggered a search that involved police, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Magee was expected in court on Monday, but never showed.

A sting operation last summer led to Magee's charges of computer pornography and attempted child molestation.

He was out on bond for those charges, but a bench warrant was issued Monday for skipping the hearing.

Magee's wife told investigators she'd last seen her husband Sunday night in his kayak.

Authorities say his kayak washed ashore the next day.

“There's always a lingering thought in the back of your mind of was this staged, was this just something to just get out of going to court,” said Sgt. Don White, Effingham County sheriff's office.

Then by chance, an Oklahoma City officer on patrol spotted an out of state tag while driving on Interstate 40.

The tag matched the missing person's report for Magee. According to Effingham Sheriff's office, camping gear was found inside Magee's car.

“Ultimately that person was taken to a medical facility, he was not placed under arrest but he was taken to a medical facility,” said Oklahoma City Master Sgt. Gary Knight.

Magee is now in the Oklahoma County jail, held there until he can be extradited back to Georgia.

Magee could be facing addition charges, this time federal ones, for running and crossing state line.
