VALLEY BROOK, Oklahoma -

A Valley Brook coffee shop that was once a target of scorn by nearby residents is now closing.

Joe’s Addiction has been open not far from Valley Brook City Hall since 2007.

It’s not just a coffee shop, but it’s also a food pantry, and a meeting place for Narcotics Anonymous.

Valley Brook Vice Mayor Lewis Nieman said the fact the coffee shop is closing in 90 days has nothing to do with past complaints that Joe’s Addiction serves past sex offenders and people with felony records.

He said the coffee shop has actually been a good neighbor.

However, he said the old strip mall-gas station building that houses Joe’s Addiction is fraught with code violations and safety hazards.

The city bought the building last summer. It plans to demolish the structure and rebuild a structure that will eventually house five new store fronts.

Joe’s Addiction owner Jamie Zumwalt said she’s not mad at the city, but grateful they’ve allowed her business to stay open this long.

“We don’t know what we’re gonna do. We are hoping we can stay really nearby Valley Brook, because the people that we love are in Valley Brook. We love this neighborhood, we love the community, we’d like to continue to serve the same folks,” she said.
