DEL CITY, Oklahoma -

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says I-40 east near Sunnylane Rd. in Del City was shut down after a wrong-way driver crashed head-on into another vehicle.

The crash happened just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to the OHP, a 29-year-old Courtland Vaugh was traveling westbound in the eastbound inside lane of I-40. He struck a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Cheyenne Malick, Of Midwest City, head-on as he was traveling eastbound.

Fire crews had to use the Jaws of Life to get both drivers out of their vehicles. Both were then transported to OU Medical in critical condition.

According to the report, Vaugh had an odor of alcohol on him.
