Oklahoma City police are now investigating the city’s 83rd homicide of 2015. Officers said an 18-year-old was fatally shot during the commission of a crime, and his accomplice has been arrested for murder.

According to police, just after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a crash in the 7600 block of S. May. When they arrived, they learned that an occupant of one of the involved vehicles, later identified as 18-year-old Ruben A. Rodriquez Jr., had been shot. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

At the time of the crash, police said Rodriquez was riding in a car with 18-year-old Christian Navarro. After the crash, Navarro reportedly ran away from the scene. He was apprehended a short time later by officers.

During the investigation, officers learned that Rodriquez and Navarro were involved in some type of criminal activity at an apartment complex, located at 157 W. I-240 Service Road.

While engaged in this criminal activity, police said Rodriquez was shot. After the shooting, Rodriquez and Navarro drove from the scene and were eventually involved in the crash in the 7600 block of S. May.

Investigators have yet to locate the person who shot Rodriquez.   After being interviewed, Navarro was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a complaint of felony murder.  The felony murder complaint is due to the fact that Navarro was in the commission of a crime when Rodriquez was fatally shot.
