ODOT Travel Conditions Across Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

As winter weather continues its march across the state, rain, sleet and ice could make driving Friday morning extremely dangerous, especially in western and northwestern parts of the state.

The following are travel advisories issued by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation:

ODOT crews treating slick highways in western Oklahoma; Travel discouraged in northwestern Oklahoma

Highways remain slick and hazardous in the Panhandle and northwestern Oklahoma, including Woodward and surrounding areas, and travel is discouraged. Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews are treating highways and bridges with salt and sand in these areas

Highways are very slick in Custer County due to sleet and snow. In other parts of western Oklahoma, crews are reporting wet roadways with slick spots on bridge due to freezing precipitation. This includes the I-40 corridor.

Highways in Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, counties are slick due to sleet and freezing rain.

Roadways are mostly wet with slick spots on bridges in Garfield, Grant and Kingfisher counties as well as Canadian County in the western part of the Oklahoma City metro area. Crews are treating these areas and also monitoring conditions in other parts of north-central and central Oklahoma.

If travel is necessary, drivers are urged to use caution, especially on bridges, overpasses and when entering or exiting highways as freezing temperatures may continue causing slick spots to develop on wet roadways. Drivers should stay at least 200 ft. behind road clearing trucks and equipment and not attempt to pass.

Drivers should allow plenty of extra time to reach their destinations. To stay updated, drivers should check local weather conditions before traveling. They can also view interstate and metro area traffic conditions and camera views at www.oktraffic.org and follow @OKDOT on Twitter.

If drivers must travel out of state they are urged to check area road conditions before heading out.
