OKLAHOMA CITY -

It was just before noon on Tuesday that Oklahoma City police got a 911 call about shots fired in the 2000 block of NE 17th St. When officers arrived they found a man dead in the middle of the street.

Police put up crime tape and positioned their cars as a way to shield the body from public view. But that did not stop people from wandering and wondering who could have shot a person in the middle of the day.

“It’s safe enough that I let me granddaughter play outside, you know, until it gets dark. And then I make her come in,” said neighbor, Betty Brown.

Brown has lived in this neighborhood the past 12 years and has never been worried until now.

“Most of my girlfriends come over we sit out on the porch,” said Brown.

But on this day, Brown was at the store and did not see what happened. Police did question several witnesses who were home at the time that the shooting call went out. But so far they have not made any arrests. And that does not sit well for Brown or her neighbors.

“It’s too close to home for me,” said Brown. “Too close. A bullet doesn’t have any eyes.”

If you have any information that can help Oklahoma City police identify the victim or the suspect, you are urged to call the homicide tip line at (405) 297-1200.
