Oklahoma State senior Brittney Martin was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team today with the league’s announcement of its preseason women’s basketball honors. The awards are chosen by the Big 12’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.

Martin was one of six players named to the squad and was joined by Nina Davis and Niya Johnson of Baylor, Oklahoma’s Gabbi Ortiz, TCU’s Zahna Medley and Bria Holmes of West Virginia.

As a junior, Martin received honorable mention All-America honors after helping the Cowgirls to their third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance. The Syracuse, Utah native was named a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 pick, was chosen as the Big 12 Player of the Week on two occasions and was named to the league’s all-defensive squad.

Martin ranked among the league leaders in several statistical categories, finishing the year seventh in scoring at 13.4 points per game, second in rebounding at 8.8 boards per outing and second in steals at 2.6 per game. Additionally, she ranked 11th among Big 12 players with her 1.0 blocked shots per game and third in minutes played at 35.0 per outing.
