The driver of a fiery semi truck accident near the Dallas Junction more than two weeks ago is still undergoing surgeries.

James Brown couldn’t not immediately escape from his burning semi after the vehicle was hit by a driver not paying attention.

“He couldn’t get his seat belt off. He fumbled with it. When he finally got it, he couldn’t open the door,” Brown’s wife Tina Edwards said.

On Monday, Brown was scheduled to have his fourth surgery.

Third and fourth degree burns cover nearly 30 percent of his body. Brown’s lungs were also damaged. He can't speak and he has been in and out of sedation at the hospital since the accident.

The accident came on only Brown's second day on the job. Edwards told News 9 he was driving without workman's comp coverage.

The couple now struggles financially with bills exceeding insurance coverage by tens of thousands of dollars.

“We were already having a really hard time before this,” Edwards said.

Edwards has set up a GoFundMe account, hoping others can relate to the live-changing turn of events and help in any way they can.

“I want him to wake up and not have to worry. I want him to worry about just getting well,” Edwards said.
