Oklahoma City Police said a man was taken to the hospital after he was shot by someone trying to break in to his home.
It happened around 5 a.m. near on N. Kelham and N.E. 20th. The victim, later identified as 89-year-old Theodore Teague who lives in the home, was shot once in the leg. He has been transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
Teague lives at the home with his two grandsons. Police said the suspect came to the door looking for one of the grandsons. Teague slammed the door, and the suspect kicked it in. Teague then grabbed a shot gun, but suspect shot him once in the leg.
We are learning more about Teague through his neighbors who affectionately call him "Papa." One woman said he is the kind of neighbor anyone would want to have.
"He's the nicest man on the block. He doesn't bother anyone. He would do anything to help someone," Von Gurley said.
As far as who police are looking for, they do not have a good suspect description or car description to release. The visibly distraught neighbors are hoping anyone who heard or saw anything will call police.
