ELK CITY, Oklahoma -

Firefighters have contained a large structure fire in Elk City, Oklahoma, that promoted evacuations nearby Tuesday morning.

According to Elk City Police, crews responded to a fire at The Baptist Village assisted living center.  It is a large structure with three wings. The area north of the First Baptist Church on Country Club and Sherry Court were evacuated.

Firefighters are getting the fire under control. But the building is a total loss.  It has burned for about one hour. No one was inside the structure at the time, and no injuries were reported.

The facility was scheduled to open in March.  Initial reports indicate that the fire started with some kind of electrical short.  Some small grass fires were set by the structure fire.

The police chief believes the residents evacuated will be allowed back into their homes shortly, if they haven't already.
