NORMAN, Oklahoma -

Three people are in the hospital following a head-on collision where the vehicles caught fire, in the area of 156th Ave. SE and State Highway 9 in Norman.

Around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, Norman Police and the Norman Fire Department responded to the injury accident call. Upon arrival, authorities discovered two vehicles that collided head-on, just west of the intersection. Both vehicles caught fire after the collision.

Authorities say several concerned citizens removed the three occupants of the vehicles and placed them on the side of the highway to await medical care. One person was taken by medi-flight and two others were transported to Norman Regional Hospital.

State Highway 9 was closed for over five hours while police investigated and crews worked to clear the scene.

The names of those involved in the accident have not been released due to pending notification of the family.
