OKLAHOMA CITY -

New information concerning the shocking murder confession made by a man currently in the Oklahoma County jail are detailed in court documents.

Police said Jimmy Hankins walked into the station, asked for a detective and started explaining how he killed his wife. The woman died last year. Her physical therapist found her and tried to revive her.

No autopsy was ever performed, and everyone thought she died of natural causes until now.

It's been more than a year since Hankins lived at 3146 NW 48 St., with his wife Susan.

The home is empty and closed up, and so was the case until Hankins walked into the Oklahoma City Police Department Friday and dropped a bombshell.

Susan Hankins had dementia and other medical problems. Her husband was her caretaker.

She died last summer, and for the past year, Jimmy Hankins was living with a dark secret, one he couldn't keep any longer.

More than a year after his wife's death he asked to speak with homicide detectives and told them he killed Susan Hankins.

He told investigators he "did not want to take care of her anymore and decided to kill her."

He said he "doubled her dose of Xanax and took her off her thyroid medication prior to her death."

He also "disconnected her oxygen which she needed" and then "placed a pillow over her head to suffocate her."

He went on to explain "he tried to make it look like natural causes and then had her cremated."

It is a stunning confession and carefully planned out murder, and Hankins got away with it until his conscience got the best of him.

"I knew what I did," he said according to court documents. "I knew what I did was premeditated. I knew she could have lived, and I took that from her!"

Hankins is in the Oklahoma County jail on a murder complaint. The district attorney's office is waiting on more information from the homicide investigation before filing official charges.
