OKLAHOMA CITY -

A puppy found dragging a badly-injured back leg in north Oklahoma City, has been saved by some Good Samaritans and the Bella Foundation.

According to the Bella Foundation SPCA, on Sunday, a family found a 4-month-old Pit Bull puppy in north Oklahoma City, dragging a very badly injured back leg. The Good Samaritans immediately took the puppy to a local veterinary clinic for treatment and The Bella Foundation stepped in to assist financially.

The little puppy has been named Xena by the children of the family that rescued her. According to the Bella Foundation, when Xena was found, her back left leg was wrapped in some type of wire or rope.  The object had been around her leg for so long, the lack of circulation had caused the leg to die.  It is unclear why Xena’s leg was wrapped in the wire.

Warning: The photo of Xena's injured leg may be considered graphic to some viewers.

Because of either dragging or chewing the leg, bones from Xena's foot were found protruding from the wound. Nearly three to four inches of her leg including most of the foot is missing.

The Bella Foundation took over Xena’s care and a veterinary partner is treating her for infection.   Unfortunately, officials said the leg cannot be saved and removing it will reduce the risk of further infection.  She has been given pain medication and has been stabilized ahead of surgery to remove the injured leg either on Monday or Tuesday.

The Bella Foundation needs your help to ensure Xena and other dogs like her receive life-saving care. See how you can help.
