Authors try to take their readers on imaginary adventures, back in time, or give someone another look at themselves.

News 9’s Karl Torp met two Oklahoma authors trying to take their fans on their own journey.

In a place packed with paperbacks, authors Derek and Carrie Olsen stand out.

“It’s intense on all levels,” said Derek. “It’s something that we are really passionate about.”

That passion, is not the type of thriller you can’t put down at night. Their book, “One Bed, One Bank Account”, provides financial advice.

“We paid cash for our house,” said Derek.

Plot twist? The home.

“This is actually ‘Sherman The Time Traveler’,” said Derek.

The book encourages people to talk about money with their wife or husband.

“Its got this couch that folds down into this bed,” continued Derek. “It’s 19x7, it’s tiny. But, it has everything you need.”

“We had a lot of really hard conversations, but it was really beneficial to us,” said Carrie.

“The way in which we had to go about this working as a team and communicating really closely together, it was tremendous for our relationship,” said Derek.

The Olsen’s are four months into a five and a half month book tour.

You just don't grow roots- talked about by financial planners. Instead, the Olsen’s connect on a permanent level when nothing around them is.

Getting financial and relationship advice, not from those living in a van by the river, but an RV in the parking lot may seem odd. But these two say read their book and you'll become richer too.
