Power is back on for residents in the area of Wilshire and Council Road in Oklahoma City, after a transformer burst into flames.
According to the fire department, at 12:48 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at an electrical substation in the 8600 block of W. Wilshire.
It was about 82 degrees overnight and humid. News 9 viewers told us they didn't have power for about five hours after the transformer caught fire. Power is now up and running.
Fire crews even had a tough time getting to the transmission system, because when the power went out, they had to lift the heavy garage doors manually at their fire station to get their fire trucks out.
Firefighters waited for OG&E to shut down power to the substation before attacking the flames.
The fire chief told us they don't have any indication this fire was intentionally set. There also weren't any storms at the time so they don't believe lightning started it. So as for a cause, they'll be looking into that.
