An Oklahoma County deputy is under investigation by Oklahoma City police for a shots-fired incident that occurred outside the AMC movie theater located outside the old Crossroads Mall in south Oklahoma City.

Police confirm the incident happened on July 11 just before midnight. Officers said it appears the deputy, who was working security at the theater, had a medical episode. Police confirm the deputy has diabetes. Witnesses said the deputy fired shots into the air in the parking lot, got into his car and left.

Police said the deputy drove home, called 911 for help, and was treated for low blood sugar by paramedics.

No one was hurt or hit during the incident, but it was scary for those families who came to see a movie and witnessed this outside in the parking lot. Police said this is still an open investigation and it will be up to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's office to determine if any charges will be filed.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff's office released a statement, saying, "The deputy has been suspended from law enforcement duties until the conclusion of the investigation by OCPD." They confirm the deputy was working a second job as security for the theater.

News 9 also talked with paramedics at EMSA about what can happen when a diabetic has an episode involving dangerously low blood sugar.
