An Oklahoma City man was arrested for assaulting a police officer and public drunkenness in southwest Oklahoma City, Saturday night.

According to police, at about 9 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check at S.W. 44th and S. Blackwelder. The caller told police that a pregnant woman and a man were lying in the parking lot in front of a liquor store.

When officers arrived, they said they saw a man, 30-year-old Michael Zapata Aguilera, lying on top of his pregnant, intoxicated wife. Aguilera reportedly told police he was trying to wake his wife up because she was too drunk and passed out.

Police tried to take Aguilera into custody. However, he resisted arrest. When officers were able to handcuff him, police said Aguilera tried to choke one officer.

Aguilera was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on multiple complaints, including a felony count of assault and battery upon a police officer, public drunkenness, and resisting arrest.
