Oklahoma City police have identified an alleged thief who was shot and killed by a homeowner Thursday afternoon.

According to police, at 1:20 p.m. officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 7900 block of S. Villa. When they arrived, they found 25-year-old Jacob Leeray Jarvis dead inside of a pickup truck. Jarvis had been shot to death.

Investigators learned that Jarvis was in the process of stealing the truck in which he was found, when he was confronted by the homeowner, 32-year-old Jose Reyes.

Police said Reyes armed himself and stepped into the roadway demanding that Jarvis stop.  However, Jarvis accelerated quickly toward Reyes.  That’s when Reyes fired into the vehicle, killing Jarvis.

Investigators from the police department will present this case to the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office.  The DA’s Office will determine if the shooting is justified and if any charges are warranted.

Police are investigating Jarvis’ death at the city’s 45th homicide of 2015.
