A fire destroyed an RV and damaged a nearby mobile home Saturday morning in southwest Oklahoma City.
According to the Fire Department, at 10:25 a.m. firefighters responded to the report of an RV on fire in the 12000 block of S.W. 24th Street.
When firefighters arrived, they found the RV fully-engulfed in flames. The RV was in very close proximity to a double-wide mobile home which sustained minor damage.
Fire crews reported that the double-wide mobile home fire was completely extinguished at 10:40 a.m.. They continued to apply water to the RV, which was initially complicated by a propane tank under the RV which was venting and producing flames due to the intense heat.
Firefighters were able to bring the propane tank under control and ultimately extinguish the RV fire. The RV was ruled as a total loss, and the double-wide sustained minor damage.
Fire investigators on scene ruled the fire as accidental. The fire began when two men were working on the motor of the RV. They were using gasoline which found an ignition source in the engine compartment. One patient was treated for smoke inhalation on scene. The other patient, an elderly male, sustained burns and smoke inhalation and was transported by EMSA to a local hospital for evaluation.
Fire officials want to remind citizens that gasoline can be extremely dangerous. Never use gasoline near possible ignition sources such as electrical devices, gas-fired appliances, or any device that has a pilot light or a spark. Also, never use gasoline inside a home or anywhere as a cleaning agent.
