Part of law enforcement history is sinking.

The Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial, which was dedicated in 1969, is in need of serious repairs. Organizers had planned to expand the memorial when they discovered that the concrete foundation was sinking.

“Now we got to take up the plaza and expand it,” said Memorial Chairman, Dennis Lippi.

The repairs along with the expansion and improvements are expected to cost around $56,000.

“It shows how much our husbands and wives meant,” said Elke Meeus.

The name of her late husband Kelley Chase, who died on duty in 2012, appears on the memorial.

There 682 names engraved in marble slabs on the memorial in front of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety building at 3600 N. MLK Ave.

Lippi is a retired master sergeant with OKCPD and tries to find the stories behind each name on the memorial.

“We want people 50 years from now to know them as more than a name on a wall,” added Lippi.
