Burglars Steal Pain Pills From Shawnee Pharmacy

Two burglars are caught on camera stealing thousands of pain pills from a local pharmacy.

"I'm worried about the pills falling into the wrong hands," David Nicklas, owner of Harrison Discount Pharmacy, said the danger to the public is greater than his loss of inventory.

During the break-in early Saturday morning, surveillance cameras captured two male suspects trying to pry open the front door of the pharmacy with a couple of pickaxes.

After a struggle, the pair decide to break out the glass front door.

Nicklas said the suspects walked straight behind the counter to a cabinet full of narcotics. The two stole $25,737.00 worth of pain pills including methadone, morphine, Oxycontin.

"I think someone had been casing the pharmacy and knew exactly where to go," said Nicklas.

He turned the video over to the Shawnee Police Department. Investigators also noticed the suspects seemed very familiar with the layout of the store.

Shawnee police Detective Jason Crouch says the number of pills stolen is particularly concerning to law enforcement.

"The basis of most crimes is drugs and then you have all of these extra drugs out there on the street to be given out or to be sold or whatever ... then its going to lead to more crime," Crouch said.

Nicklas also has some concerns. He says the number of prescription drugs on the streets could lead to a rise in overdose deaths.

So, for more than the sake of his business, he's hoping someone can help investigators track down the suspects.

"We need to get them off the street as quickly as possible," said Nicklas.
