Dodgers Fail To Complete Sweep of Memphis

The Redbirds scored five runs in the sixth and seventh innings to avoid a sweep and lead them to a 7-3 win against the Dodgers.

The Memphis Redbirds scored five runs on two home runs in the sixth and seventh innings to lead them to a 7-3 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Redbirds (37-34) avoided a series sweep with the win in the series finale against the league-leading Dodgers (46-23). Oklahoma City won the series, 3-1.

A two-run homer by Jacob Wilson hit the Budweiser Deck in the left field to put Memphis in front for good in the sixth inning. A three-run homer from Stephen Piscotty to center field in the top of the seventh inning boosted the Redbirds a four-run advantage.

The Dodgers' stretch of seven straight home wins came to an end in front of a crowd of 7,690.

Oklahoma City was trying for its first series sweep against Memphis since July 22-25, 2011 and took the first lead of the game.

O'Koyea Dickson doubled, then scored on a RBI single to center by Brian Ward for a 1-0 Dodgers lead in the second inning.

Memphis' Dan Johnson hit into what appeared would be a double play in the top of the fourth inning. Darwin Barney fielded the ball and threw to Buck Britton for a force out at second base. Britton's throw to first sailed into the stands and Johnson advanced to second base. Tommy Pham then followed with a RBI double to tie the game, 1-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dickson walked then advanced to third on a double by Ward. Memphis pitcher John Gast intentionally walked Scott Schebler to load the bases with one out for Barney. Dickson scored on a sacrifice fly by Barney for a 2-1 Oklahoma City lead.

Wilson's two-run homer to left field gave the Redbirds a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

Memphis scored four runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Piscotty's three-run homer fell just shy of the scoreboard in center field and pushed Memphis to a 6-2 lead and a RBI single by Pham gave Memphis a 7-2 advantage. Pham finished the night 4-for-4 with two RBI.

A RBI single by Schebler in the bottom of the seventh cut the Memphis lead to 7-3.

Memphis starting pitcher John Gast (4-4) got the win for the Redbirds, allowing two runs and six hits over five innings. He issued three walks and recorded two strikeouts.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brandon Beachy made his first appearance with Oklahoma City as he continues his rehab assignment. He started Sunday's game and pitched two innings, allowing one hit, one walk and recording three strikeouts. He threw 45 pitches, including 26 for strikes.

Reliever Steve Smith (3-1) was charged with the loss for Oklahoma City.

After an off day Monday, the Dodgers open a three-game home series against Colorado Springs at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
