Wilkins Homer The Difference For Dodgers

Posted: Updated:

A three-run homer by Andy Wilkins provided all of the Oklahoma City Dodgers' runs and the Dodgers pitching staff held the Nashville Sounds scoreless after the second inning in a 3-1 win Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Dodgers won a third straight game overall and ended a five-game home losing skid in front of a crowd of 5,537 as they opened a four-game series against the Sounds.

Dodgers starting pitcher Scott Baker (5-3) picked up his third win in four starts, holding the Sounds to one run and four hits over 7.0 innings. He issued one walk and struck out three Nashville batters.

Ryan Buchter pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Chin-Hui Tsao retired the side in the ninth inning to earn his third save in as many games.

Oklahoma City (38-21) held an opponent to less than three runs for the first time since a 4-1 win against Fresno May 31 – a span of 10 games.

Nashville's lone run of the night came on a home run from catcher Bryan Anderson in the second inning. Anderson hit his second home run of the season for the Sounds (29-32) on a fly ball to right center field with one out.

The Dodgers were held scoreless until the sixth inning.

Darnell Sweeney and Austin Barnes hit back-to-back singles to lead off the sixth for Oklahoma City. Later with two outs, Andy Wilkins brought them both home with a three-run homer to right center field for a 3-1 Dodgers lead. The homer was Wilkins' sixth of the season.

Nashville starting pitcher Barry Zito (4-5) was hit with the loss, allowing three runs, six hits and striking out five over 6.0 innings. He did not issue a walk.

Oklahoma City improved to 12-4 in series openers with the win, including 6-2 at home.

The Dodgers continue their four-game series against the Sounds at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
