Posted: Updated:

OKC's Kyle Greig netted two goals, while goal keeper Evan Newton recorded his third consecutive shutout to lift Energy FC to their fifth straight win with a 2-0 decision over Portland Timbers FC 2 Friday night at Taft Stadium. OKC is undefeated in its last six games, having registered a 2-2 draw with Vancouver on May 17.

Greig's first goal broke a scoreless tie in the 56th minute of play, when OKC's Daniel Gonzalez sent a cross from the left side that Greig headed past Portland keeper Jake Gleeson. The assist was Gonzalez's first point of the season.

In the 78th minute, Greig notched his second goal of the match, this time taking a sliding pass from the center of the Timbers six-yard box by Danni König and tipping it past Gleeson. The score gave Greig his sixth goal in six games and his second multi-goal match over that span. His other two-goal performance came in OKC's 3-1 U.S. Open Cup win over Midland/Odessa on May 20. Greig is now tied with König for the team lead in USL play goals with five.

With a single save in the shutout win, Newton's recored improved to 5-1-3 in USL play and 6-1-3 overall. Newton has two consecutive shutouts in USL play, with a third in OKC's 1-0 U.S. Open Cup win over Tulsa on May 27.

Energy FC captain Michael Thomas left 32 minutes into the match with an injury after butting heads with Portland's Rennico Clarke while attempting to gain position on a ball inside the Timbers box. Thomas did not return following the collision.

OKC's next match is Tuesday, June 9, when it welcomes the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 to Taft Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff during part of Energy FC's Youth Soccer Night.
