The Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation Department is canceling its Kidathlon and Summer Kick-Off events that were scheduled for Saturday at Will Rogers Family Aquatic Center.

According to Parks & Recreation staff, park grounds are too soaked to host either event.

“We're just out of luck this year,” said Doug Kupper, Parks & Recreation Director. “Staff are regrouping and we hope to re-schedule some kind of festival for either mid-summer or right before school starts again.”

The Will Rogers Family Aquatic Center, located at 3201 N. Grand Blvd., will open despite the rainy weather. Even if patrons can't swim, they can still get by the center to purchase season aquatic passes and sign up for summer swimming lessons.

“We'll still have our summer,” Kupper said. “It will just take a few weeks later to get started.”

Meanwhile, officials encourage residents to explore the variety of summer day camp and other program options offered by the Parks & Recreation Department. You can find more information on the City's website or by calling (405)-297-2211.
