Just before 8 p.m. the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) was contacted for assistance with a water rescue in Caddo County.

OHP said a Carnegie man and two juveniles were on a boat on the Washita River and the boat capsized. OHP reported one life vest was in use.

According to OHP, the operator put the boat in the Washita River in an attempt to check limb lines along the east bank of the river. "The motor on the boat was not strong enough to propel the boat causing it to strike a tree. All three occupants were ejected from the boat," the report stated.

Carnegie police officer D.J. Gorbet, 24, went into the water on foot in an attempt to rescue the victims and was also overtaken by the rushing water, OHP said. Twin Cities Fire Department successfully rescued all victims.

Several OHP troopers  also responded to the scene. "Everyone is OK," an OHP representative told News 9 shortly after 9 p.m. Monday. The victims were reportedly being taken to the hospital.

The two juveniles were ages seven and 17. They were treated and released. The 13-foot John Boat was operated by 39-year-old Erik Steckman, the report stated. His condition was unknown, according to the report. The Carnegie police officer was not injured.
