Six months ago when opponents were screaming "not another dime" to complete the American Indian Cultural Center and Museum down along the Oklahoma River, I said it was time for Oklahoma City to take the property back.
Well, now the city has its chance. The legislature has approved, and the Governor is expected to sign a plan where the state kicks in $25 million more to help finish the Indian museum and give it to Oklahoma City to complete it and run it.
State taxpayers wash their hands of this political boondoggle, while Oklahoma City gets what I think could be a real tourism draw, and all the land around it that includes riverfront property to be developed.
I've seen some leaders licking their chops at the idea of building a boardwalk with shops, hotels, and restaurants between the Indian Museum and the Oklahoma River.
Once the Governor signs the plan, Oklahoma City leaders will have to discuss and vote on whether or not it works for them, but it looks like a great deal to me.
Oklahoma City will apparently have to come up with $9 million, but for that the city gets a $155 million dollar world class Native American Museum complex.
This is Native America, it's long overdue.
I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
