Rumors swirled about attempted abductions of teenage girls in Piedmont.

But so far, police said only one girl has come forward saying a man approached her in her driveway.

Piedmont police told News 9 they're trying to be very careful not to read too much into one incident. Police don't know what the suspect's intent was but they are taking that one report very seriously.

“It's an unusual event,” said Piedmont Chief, Scott Singer. “Would we like to know why it occurred, absolutely.”

A mother called police after a man aggressively approached her teenage daughter.

According to the report filed by the family, the suspect was driving a black 4x4 pickup, but they didn't have a good description.

“He stops the truck in the middle of the street, gets out. He appears angry to her, but he doesn't say or do anything,” said Singer. “He doesn't actually approach her.”

Chief Singer urged people to come forward with any similar incidents so his officers can do a better job getting the perpetrator off the streets.

“If we don't know about it, then we can't investigate it. If we can't investigate it, then we can't try and determine the validity of the accusations or try and locate a suspect,” said Singer.

“First time I heard it was last week. I saw it on Facebook,” said Piedmont resident, John Vaskie.

Police said social media has fueled false rumors of multiple abduction attempts.

“I'm outside enough, I'd see something like that, and with my back ground, I'd have to jump into some kind of action or something, you know,” said Vaskie.

Vaskie lives just two houses down from where the incident happened.

“I hope it's just a one-time thing and it never happens again,” said Vaskie. “But you never know.”

Police would like to question the man who approached the girl at her home.

So far, they said there have been no other reports of this kind.
