A Yukon woman is recovering Wednesday and she's counting her blessings.

She managed to get lost in a very wooded area far from home, and then got trapped in the mud Tuesday afternoon. But fortunately, Oklahoma City Police Officers were able to spot her and her car and bring her to safety.

Police said even though she called 911, it wasn't easy to find her.

Police found her van just south of SW 119th and Council Rd. and it was about a mile from that intersection that police found the 78-year-old woman. She was cold, covered in mud, and had ants crawling all over her.

Police sent out the police helicopter within minutes of getting the 911 call. They also had officers on the ground trying to pinpoint her location in the heavily wooded area.

Sgt. Ryan Robertson was one officers searching for the woman. He said he got some much needed help from a local landowner who lent him an ATV.

“Its 4 X 4, so I was able to go through the tree lines, and cut across the fields that had small gates,” said Sgt. Robertson.

Somehow the woman they were looking for managed to get past a gate and off the gravel road. But, her van slid off the muddy path and into a ditch. Then, she hurt her ankle.

So, it was a good thing Sgt. Robertson had access to the ATV. He was able to drive her out of there, and to a waiting ambulance.

“If I hadn't run into that citizen,” said Sgt. Robertson. “Then we probably would have been out here for hours trying to get her out of there.”

“Everybody was so kind,” said the woman, who we learned is named Pat Wilson during a telephone conversation Wednesday afternoon. “And what a relief it was to see the helicopter circling overhead.”

Wilson can't thank her heroes enough.

“She's a sweet lady, fragile lady,” said Sgt. Robertson. “I'm just glad we were able to get to her when we did.”

Paramedics took Wilson to a hospital, where she was checked out and is doing just fine.

She told News 9 by phone that she is back home with her family.
